Origin Story

The Western Ghats
of Maharashtra.

Mahabaleshwar sits at 1,372 metres in the Sahyadri range of the Western Ghats - a UNESCO World Heritage biodiversity hotspot. The town receives over 6,000mm of rainfall annually, and its volcanic basalt soil, rich in iron and minerals, gives the strawberries grown here their distinctive deep red colour and exceptional sugar-acid balance.

Strawberry cultivation was introduced to Mahabaleshwar by the British in the 1880s, who recognised that the cool, misty climate closely resembled the strawberry-growing regions of England. Today, over 80% of India's strawberry production comes from this single hill station and its surrounding villages. The season runs from November to March, when the berries are at their most flavourful.

Amā (अमा) sources directly from family farms in the Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar belt, selecting only the Camarosa and Sweet Charlie varieties - known for their intense flavour rather than shelf life. The preserves are made within 24 hours of harvest, slow-cooked in copper vessels with unrefined cane sugar, and sealed in glass jars. No shortcuts. No compromises.

This is what strawberry jam is supposed to taste like

I have been buying Mahabaleshwar strawberry products for years but this preserve is on another level. The fruit pieces are real and generous. The flavour is intensely strawberry - not sugary or artificial. I put it on everything.

Gifted this and received a thank-you call

Sent this as part of a hamper to a friend in London. She called to say it was the best preserve she had ever tasted and asked me to send more. The Mahabaleshwar strawberry really is exceptional - you can taste the altitude.

No going back to supermarket jam

The colour alone is stunning - deep ruby red. But the taste is what gets you. Tart, sweet, intensely fruity. I use it with yoghurt every morning. The jar is beautiful too. Worth every rupee.
